Short Term Vs. Long Term Thinking
There is an interesting discussion going on over at the warrior forum-here-about a technique that is normally taught to new affiliate marketers, and its viability. In a nut shell, the OP is wondering why so many people do single page blogs(presumably free), and aim articles at them, instead of building larger and(presumably) more effective virtual real estate.
It’s a good question, and despite which side of the business model you fall on, it’s worth considering all the answers.
The simplest answer is that it’s the fastest way to get a new internet marketer to see a little profit, with no or very little monetary investment. But I think it’s also a good way to test market viability. Keyword research is very important, and once you have your keywords there are some other market tests that I like to use. But nothing trumps sales as a benchmark for a new market. Sure, the return on investment changes when you have more time and money in play, but it’s always nice to know the market is buying.
Although I wouldn’t use the single page free website approach in all niches, there are some where I just don’t see the point in going bigger. I have a series of blogger blogs, for instance, that get about a post a week, and an article a week; as the only form of marketing. They are all optimized for the long tail, and they bring in a bit of profit monthly. None of the niches are worth it, for me, to scale up….but having them quietly pushing a couple of bucks every month is nice-and not bad for am hour or so set up time once a month for a new batch.
I guess ultimately, I do agree with the OP over at warriors. This isn’t the best model to build long term business on. But it can be a great way to get started-just use your head, and decide the best way to fit a business model into your personal business strategy.
